“BEING HUMAN” Series premiere Monday at 9 on Syfy

There is apparently something more terrifying than a ghost, a werewolf or a vampire.

An English accent.

Syfy’s remake of “Being Human” might suck in the Anglophobes, but it will haunt others familiar with the original, a sterling BBC series still in production - its third season begins airing in the United Kingdom Jan. 23 and is expected to hit BBC America this summer.

The cable network’s decision to redo the series is a mystery akin to “The Ring.”

As in the original, “Being Human” centers on three seeming monsters who become best friends.

Comparisons to the BBC show are unavoidable since the first two episodes are practically a scene-by-scene reshoot of the original’s opening. The stars even look like doppelgangers of the English cast. The American version changes the names of the main characters and stakes the show in Boston (actually Montreal).
