“Ye Olde McDonald's Farm” pub in Alfreton, Derbyshire, recently taken over by the Derbyshire firm Pub people, plans to change its name back to the original “King Alfred” amid fears that this will attract the pub’s then resident ghost to make a comeback.
The once haunted Derbyshire pub was renamed 14 years ago which coincided with the last reported sighting of a female ghost. Now that the pub has been renamed, the staff are wondering if it will bring the "Victorian lady" back to her old haunt. Local legend has it she was a lady of the night who used to prop up the bar and ply her trade there in inclement weather but her disappearance after the pub was renamed was attributed to her taking offence at the change. Pub landlord Arthur Thomas has said she could now return, along with former regulars who have been attracted back to the pub.
