A giant effigy of Wayne Rooney will go up in flames on Saturday night as part of annual bonfire celebrations.A Kent-based bonfire society has unveiled the 49ft creation complete with green Shrek-style ears mocking the Manchester United star's supposed likeness to the animated ogre.

Up to 15,000 people are expected to turn up for the Edenbridge Bonfire Society's annual parade and display on Saturday.

The steel-framed structure is packed full of fireworks to ensure the footballer goes up with a bang.

Dressed in full kit, the Rooney effigy is clutching a copy of his lucrative new five-year contract under one arm and a holdall full of cash in the other.

All those fans who pay exorbitant ticket prices to see this no-hoper have only themselves to blame for this situation. How many other people manage to secure such a lucrative deal whilst on injury time and then just go off on holiday?
