Astronomers have found plenty of large extra-solar planets over the past decade, but none of them have been strictly Earth-like, meaning that thriving ecosystems of extraterrestrial flora and fauna still remain a matter of theory and science-fiction. We just don’t know if there’s another planet like Earth out there until we actually spot one.
A new scientific paper by Sam Arbesman and Greg Laughlin says we might not have long to wait: they predict that we will find a potentially habitable and Earth-like planet by early May 2011.
