Cumbria is clearly still producing UFO sightings as the following account shows.

Location: over the Solway Firth, Maryport Cumbria

Date and Time: Tuesday 7th September 2010 at 20.30hrs

Eye witness Mr Jeff Bell sent in the following UFO report to  Pat Regan.


“The first thing I saw was a reddish light in the sky to the east, this seemed to be a constant reddish glow through the clouds, which I expected to appear as an aeroplane through the clouds, this did not happen and the glow seemed to stop, I was pondering this as I looked out west across the Solway firth toward The Robin Rigg Offshore wind farm, where I saw a solid looking spherical object (almost like a side view of a smartie) which was a graphite colour with no lighting at all, it could only be seen against the setting skyline because it was directly against the remaining clear skyline. The object moved quite quickly at first across the sky, and as the object began descent, I thought that this was perhaps a helicopter descending to the wind farm installation at first, but was surprised when it passed below the visible line of the wind farm and seemed to carry on down until it landed in the water. The object was sat out a few hundred yards from the Maryport coast, where it remained sat on the surface for some 30mins or more, until it became so dark that I could no longer see the object.”

Mr Bell added:

“This was my first UFO experience, and I would have been inclined to think I had imagined the whole thing but for coming across an older couple who were out walking their dogs on the promenade and who confirmed to me that they also experienced the same thing I had just seen!”

Also, don't forget the Solway Firth is no stranger to UFO/Alien visitation as evidenced in this incident from 1964 ...

On 23 May 1964, Jim Templeton, a firefighter from Carlisle, Cumberland (now part of Cumbria), took three photographs of his five-year-old daughter while on a day trip to Burgh Marsh.[1]  The only other people on the marshes that day were a couple of old ladies, and although cows and sheep would have normally been plentiful, they were huddled together at the far end of the marsh.[2] In a letter to the Daily Mail  in 2002, Templeton recalled, "I took three pictures of my daughter Elizabeth in a similar pose - and was shocked when the middle picture came back from Kodak displaying what looks like a spaceman in the background."[3]  Templeton insists that he did not see the figure until after his photographs were developed, and analysts at Kodak confirmed that the photograph was genuine
