Kala: This is Kala with The Explore Your Spirit with Kala Show. I want to talk about a special show we have on today with Brad Steiger. Brad Steigeris the author of over 164 books. He’s a master storyteller, when it comes to true tales of the supernatural and of unexplained occurrences. His book Strange Guests is a genuine early Steiger classic about legendary poltergeist cases, like the Bell Witch haunting, and many other tales that definitely send numerous chills and shivers up and down your spine. This book was first published 40 years ago. With an introduction by Ivan Sanderson, we learn many fascinating behind the scene details of how this book came to be written and the significant and supportive role that zoologist, Ivan Sanderson, played in its production. Sanderson’s original introduction is also included, along with a new forward by noted author and cryptozoologist, Lauren Coleman. Prepare to be a little thrilled and a little chilled. We’re discussing topics here of poltergeists, exorcisms and paranormal activity... Brad -- Welcome to the show!
Brad: Thank you, Kala.
Kala: It’s wonderful to have you here. I’m a big fan and I’ve followed your work and your books for a long time, so it’s a delight to speak with you today.
Brad: We’ll it’s a delight to be here. I’ve enjoyed corresponding with you.Kala: Thank you, me too very much. Your book Strange Guests is an early book that you wrote, and I have to start by asking about the cover. What’s going on the cover there? Who is that?
Brad: Seriously, though it’s too gross, too grotesque, and too gruesome, I’m projecting there, or trying to, when I had the choice of covers from the publisher, I said, “This captures it,” because I am suggesting, as other psychotherapists have, that the poltergeist is a rambunctious projection of our minds, psychokinetic ability. Sometimes it can blend with a ghost, sometimes it seems like a ghost, sometimes it seems like a spirit of the dead, but it’s probably unrestrained psychokinetic explosion, of the creative capacity, of the human psyche. That is represented always by water and by something rising from the water, whether it's tarot cards, or what else. So here we have this kind of a morphus, almost fetus-like creature rising, with dripping water, and I think that, maybe that’s a little subtle, but I think it’s there. If nothing else it grabs you, doesn’t it Kala?
Kala: It does, it’s a cross between my naughty inner child coming out and what it looks like when I'm trying to give my Chihuahua a bath. <<chuckles>>. It definitely gets your attention. Brad, you wrote this book back in 1966, so this is the 40th anniversary here. When did you start working and researching poltergeists?
