Deaf twins who discovered they were going blind and would never see each other again are euthanized in Belgian hospital
After reading the headline above, I have to admit to being pretty well horrified that this was allowed to happen. Euthanasia in the case of those who are suffering terminal illness, incurable disease etc have a case but these guys were "just" going blind and were afraid of never seeing each other again. Add this to the fact they were both already deaf must have been an absolutely terrible thing to happen to them, but to want euthanasia takes some guts. I can't decide if they were being selfish or there was some other underlying issue. Anybody who has lost a family member can feel like life isn't worth carrying on with but surely, time usually heals? Nothing can make the feeling ever go away, sadness etc will always be there but little by little it diminishes so a person can continue with life, albeit in a different way.
I think of those confined to wheelchairs. with no mobility of their own, the limbless Thalidomide children, those burnt in horrific accidents etc, are we to condone euthanasia for them if they agree?
I hope those troubled souls are forever at peace now as I can't think of how it would be to be cut off from sense of sight and hearing but surely this decision was taken too soon?
