After 24 hours of hanging ornaments, placing poinsettias and stringing Christmas lights, Berval and Sandi Bennett rested. More lights, bundles of greenery and dozens of Santa Claus statues still needed placement.
“We probably have about another 24 hours to get everything ready for the tour,” said Sandi Bennett, looking at an unfinished fireplace mantle.
During the annual Historic Decatur Christmas Tour on Saturday, the Bennetts will open the three-story McEntire-Bennett House on Sycamore Street Northwest — one of the four buildings in Decatur that survived the Civil War — to the public.
Visitors can walk through the men’s smoking room, ladies’ sewing room, entryway, kitchen and dining room on the first floor and the ghost room on the second floor....continues
