Katie Couric has become the focus of one strange investigation.
The NYPD is probing a series of mysterious 911 calls apparently originating from a phone line registered to Couric's late husband, Jay Monahan.
Monahan died in 1998 after a battle with colon cancer. But, according to the New York Daily News, his phone dials 911 every Tuesday around 2 a.m. There have been at least 10 instances of the calls since last month, according to the Daily News.
Couric relayed the bizarre story to her studio audience during a commercial break this week. She says she asked NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly to investigate the matter.
"So I called Ray Kelly, who I know just through the years seeing at different things. 'Ray, this is so weird but can you help me? I don’t know what to do,'" Couric told the audience, per an eyewitness account in the Daily News.
Whenever the mysterious calls are made, the police call back to check. In addition, a patrol car is sent to investigate. Couric told her audience that she always has a hard time getting back to sleep afterward.
Some experts believe "spoofing" is to blame for the calls. That's an illegal technique in which a hacker uses a device to hijack a phone line. Other celebrities who have fallen victim to the trick include Ashton Kutcher, Chris Brown, and Kim Kardashian.

Be afraid, be very afraid. We’ve come to the following conclusion: lately, Phoenix Suns ghost stories have been much more intriguing than their game stories. (Feel free to fear both my conclusion and this tale).

And yes, we said – ghost stories. As in spooky, scary, haunted hotels. “Something about the water running in the sink,” recounted Alvin Gentry, obviously bemused. “I think he should’ve recorded it, if it’s going to be legit.” Paulie Poltergeist doesn’t have infrared video evidence. But! What if we said we have a first-person eyewitness account from one of Coach Gentry’s players. Well, sort of....

Historian Seeks Accounts Of Poltergeist Activity

After the Second World War, psychological concepts of mind over matter provided a new way to explain the poltergeist – a rare and strange phenomenon in which objects moved on their own. What is the historical significance of this?

Christopher Laursen currently  a PhD candidate in the Department of History at the University of British Columbia is seeking accounts for his dissertation which examines a historical shift in how people experienced the poltergeist phenomenon in the second half of the twentieth century in Britain, the U.S., and Canada....

DID YOU EXPERIENCE OBJECTS THAT REPEATEDLY MOVED ON THEIR OWN WITH NO APPARENT EXPLANATION?

If so, historian  Christopher Laursen  would like to hear from you. This research focuses on these types of experiences that occurred between 1945 and 1990. The movement of objects on their own should have taken place repeated over a period of time, for example, a few days, weeks, or months, but then have stopped moving on their own at some point. Please send an e-mail or letter describing in detail what happened to you, noting where and when it happened as well. Your experience may add to the historical knowledge of this phenomenon. Bridges House ghost tales

Sometime after Maggie Hassan is sworn in as the state's next governor, she may come across things that hint of some freeloaders occupying the state's executive residence.

The state's outgoing first lady, Susan Lynch, last week passed along some stories alleging strange goings-on in the Bridges House in East Concord. Tales of towels and tablecloths found out of place, piano music played with no musician present and female voices heard in empty rooms have some people saying they think the historic house is home to one, possibly two ghosts.

"They seem to be more mischievous than malicious," said Lynch....

In light of the recent horrific incident in Newtown, Connecticut, the following past post may bring some solace to those who believe in miracles and a divine spirit:

Some places and dates are branded by disaster, by the stories of one horrible day that no one can forget: 9/11, Oklahoma City, Columbine. What sets this horrible day apart from others is about what didn't happened. The small town of Cokeville, Wyoming was the sight of a parent's worst nightmare on May 16th, 1986 when a mentally disturbed man and his wife entered an elementary school with guns and a homemade gasoline bomb.

The man's name was David Young, a former town marshal. He had been the tiny's towns only police officer in six months during 1979 and when he was fired for misconduct, he moved to Tucson, Arizona. He and his wife returned to Cokeville in 1986 and carried out their insidious plan. Young had a manifesto called "Zero-Infiniti" and proclaimed "this is a revolution!" as he and his wife took an entire generation - over 160 children and teachers - hostage and wouldn't release them until he was given 300 million dollars and a personal phone call from Ronald Reagan, the President of the United States.

Keeping all the children in a single room and standing in the middle of it, the Youngs began a standoff that would last 2 1/2 hours. David left the room leaving his wife alone and it was then that the bomb went off instantly killing Doris. The bomb had been on the shopping cart and, though it was homemade, it was powerful enough to destroy a section of the school. Moments before the explosion, Young handed the shoelace and clothespin to his wife and went across the hall to the bathroom. Doris Young apparently didn’t realize how sensitive the trigger mechanism was and accidently caused it to go off.

The blast knocked Williams off her feet. The room erupted in chaos as children ran screaming in the dark, smoke-filled room. While many kids, including her friends Amber Kemp and BranDee Prows, escaped through the window, Williams crawled toward a light at the doorway. She crossed paths with David Young at the door, and he tried to grab her shirt, but the tide of running children prevented him. She escaped but saw flames on her shirt and felt an odd, tickling sensation on her shoulder. She started rolling to try to put it out, but the burning sensation only intensified. She was saved from further burns when some teachers found her and slapped out the flames. Then they told her to run.

Running toward the blast Young started to randomly spray the area with gunfire. Some kids were grazed by whizzing bullets, but none were hit. Through the chaos, everyone was eventually accounted for except for the Youngs. Upon finding his burning wife, Young had shot her and then returned to the bathroom and shot himself.

The miraculous thing is that despite the shooting and the detonation of the bomb, the Youngs were the only casualties. Some children and teachers suffered severe flash burns from the explosion and minor bullet wounds, but all were alive. In the last 20 years, this event has become known as The Miracle of Cokesville..... continues
