The B-58 Hustler, first super sonic bomber, ever!

No other bomber has ever matched the speed of the Mighty B-58.

This vid was filmed at Carswell AFB, FT. Worth, Texas back in the early 60's. My home town!

B-57 Canberra

The Martin B-57 Canberra was a twin jet engine, light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft (photographic, electronics, and meteorological) which entered service in the 1950s. Originally based on the British English Electric Canberra, the US-built B-57 had evolved into several unique variants. At the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, the United States Air Force found itself in dire need of an all-weather interdiction aircraft. The piston-engined Douglas A-26 Invaders were limited to daytime and fair weather operations and were in short supply. Thus, on 16 September 1950 the USAF issued a request for a jet-powered bomber with a top speed of 630 mph (1,020 km/h), ceiling of 40,000 feet (12,190 m), and range of 1,150 miles (1,850 km). Full all-weather capability and secondary reconnaissance role had to be included in the design.

Putin boasts new jet fighter better than U.S. plane

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin climbed into the cockpit of Russia's newest fighter jet on Thursday and said it would trump a U.S.-built rival, the F-22Raptor.

Putin watched a test flight of a "fifth-generation" stealth fighter, dubbed the T-50 and billed as Russia's first all-new warplane since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

"This machine will be superior to our main competitor, the F-22, in terms of maneuverability, weaponry and range," Putin told the pilot after the flight, according to an account on the government website.

Putin said the plane would cost up to three times less than similar aircraft in the West and could remain in service for 30 to 35 years with upgrades, according to the report.

Successful development of the fighter, built by Sukhoi, is crucial to showing Russia can challenge U.S. technology and modernize its military after a period of post-Soviet decay.

B-52 crash. *Warning* The crash is pretty graphic.

On 24 June 1994, a B-52H of the 325th Bomb Squadron, 92d Bomb Wing at Fairchild Air Force Base (AFB), Wash., crashed while preparing to land after practicing maneuvers for an air show, killing all four crewmen. The pilot in command had over a long period of time demonstrated a disregard for Air Force flying rules and regulations, and this was known by the senior commanders in the wing. No appropriate action had been taken to discipline him or rein in his noncompliant behavior.

Military chiefs have tested a revolutionary unmanned attack boat to use in the war against maritime terrorists and pirates who threaten British ships.

The new £8million remote-controlled craft – which could have come straight from the pages of a James Bond novel – is being considered by officers in the Special Boat Service, the maritime equivalent of the SAS.

The 35ft-long Israeli-built ‘Silver Marlin’ can be used for electronic warfare and mine clearance. Coated in bullet-resistant Kevlar and equipped with radar, it has a 7.62mm calibre weapon system with laser aiming, range finder and target illuminator and can carry missiles.

I added the soundtrack to this film from my music collection. It starts about a minute and a half into the first segment to give you some idea of how sound is so important to film.

U.S. Army sergeant set to become the first living Medal of Honour recipient since the Vietnam War.

A US Army staff sergeant will today become the first living recipient of the Medal of Honour since the Vietnam War. Salvatore Giunta, 25, will receive America's highest bravery medal from President Obama in a ceremony later today. Giunta was serving as a rifle team leader in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan in October 2007 when an insurgent ambush split his squad into two groups.

The 25-year-old soldier from Hiawatha, Iowa, was under fire when he pulled a fellow soldier back to cover and rescued another who was being carried away by two insurgents. According to the White House citation: 'The then-Specialist distinguished himself by acts of gallantry at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a rifle team leader with Company B, 2d Battalion (Airborne), 503d Infantry Regiment during combat operations against an armed enemy in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan on October 25, 2007.

'When an insurgent force ambush split Specialist Giunta's squad into two groups, he exposed himself to enemy fire to pull a comrade back to cover.

'Later, while engaging the enemy and attempting to link up with the rest of his squad, Specialist Giunta noticed two insurgents carrying away a fellow soldier.

'He immediately engaged the enemy, killing one and wounding the other, and provided medical aid to his wounded comrade while the rest of his squad caught up and provided security.

'His courage and leadership while under extreme enemy fire were integral to his platoon's ability defeat an enemy ambush and recover a fellow American paratrooper from enemy hands.'

Giunta was shot twice, with one round hitting his body armor and the second destroying a weapon slung over his back. He was not seriously hurt.

The hero said he is determined to make the medal belong to others.
