A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Northern California Thursday night and was felt.  According to the United State Geological Survey, the initial quake hit about 8:47 pm; its epicenter was about 27 miles southwest of Susanville and seven miles west northwest of Greenville.

There were reports on Twitter that shaking from the temblor was felt in Sacramento, 150 miles away, where police said it set off home and car alarms, the Los Angeles Times reported….VIDEO

A newly uncovered Star Trek spoof video filmed inside a California nuclear power plant has sparked concerns that plant employees boldly went to the final frontier of inappropriate behavior. The video, which was reportedly produced in 2013 from inside the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), stars actual employees in various roles from the iconic science fiction franchise. Robert Taylor was sixty-one-years-old at the time that he had the most unusual encounter of his life. He was an unassuming man, steady, phlegmatic, with a thick brush of white hair and a craggy outdoorsman’s face. He liked a pint, and a dram too, but not when he was working. He smoked, but not too many. He had worked as a forester all of his adult life in the Dechmont woods located in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. On the morning of Friday, November 9, 1979, Mr Taylor set off that morning, with his red setter Lara, to check the woods on Dechmont Law for stray sheep and cattle. It was a damp day and, after he had parked the van and set off down the forest track, even the noise of the Edinburgh-Glasgow motorway was muffled by thick, dark fir trees. The dog ran, and Mr Taylor’s trudging wellingtons made the only sound. Then he turned a corner into a clearing filled with light, and saw it…a UFO!……

A letter from Carl Jung to an editor at the New Republic newspaper in Washington D.C. about UFOs has recently gone up for auction at the Swann Auction Galleries. The letter, dated December 12, 1957, appears to be in response to a request to write an article about UFOs and Jung’s upcoming book on the topic.

Jung demonstrated a great interest in UFOs in his career, primarily the psychological aspects of the modern mythology, but as he expresses in the letter, to his chagrin, “one almost must regret that the Ufos seem to be real after all.”…..

Inspired by a trip to the museum, a group of students built the Viper 2.0, a life-size flight simulator fashioned after the Viper spacecraft from the TV series “Battlestar Galactica.”

The initial Viper, introduced at last year’s Maker Faire innovation festival, is impressive. The realistic-looking capsule was cooked up by Sam DeRose, now an engineering sophomore at Harvey Mudd College, and his family after a clearly influential visit to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C….
