A representation of how much space debris is in orbit around the Earth

Nuclear reactor fuel cores, two hundred bags of rubbish and millions of pieces of human debris all travelling at thousands of mile an hour, sounds more like a video game than real life. This however is the reality that scientists have to deal with when they look at objects that are in orbit around the Earth. Take a look for yourself in this infographic (not to scale*) that gives a good approximation of the amount of debris there actually is.
